ABOUT US

Ashington Town was originally known as AE Phoenix FC and is a voluntary run football club for boys, girls, and adults. We are an Ashington based club that trains and plays our home games at St Josephine High School, North Seaton. Although we are an Ashington based football club we have a wide base following with players coming from Lynmouth, Newbiggin, and Bedlington to mention a few.

The club was set up in 2005 by a group of pro-active parents whose children were told they were not good enough to play club football. The club started its first season with 1 team and 2 coaches, but soon found that there were many other children who wanted to play football but could not get into a team because they were told that they were not good enough. The club has steadily grown from the 1 team in its first season to the 20 teams, 30 coaches and over 76 volunteers that started the 2021/22 season, making the club the biggest in the area. The club also runs a successful Mini Kickers club were up to 25 children from the ages of 3-6 years old attend. Mini kickers have now filtered players into teams over the past 2 seasons. The club has never held trials to select its players, but always aims to build a team for every child that comes to one of our many open coaching sessions that are held regularly for children to turn up and play for free. Football is a competitive sport and everyone likes to win, but the clubs main aim is for the players to have fun while learning and to help children build their confidence and character.
